Latest ‘Learn Join Dementia Research’ Awareness Tool Headlines (January 2020)
Background
The Learn Join Dementia Research Awareness Tool was launched in February 2019. Aimed at healthcare professionals, it has been designed to simply explain to staff what Join Dementia Research (JDR) is, and how it works, and how they could help support the service and encourage patients to register. Users watch a short film, answer questions, they are then provided with links to resources e.g. care studies, stats, materials and emailed with more information and a certificate.
The system records details of the people who complete the tool, contact details and the type of organisation they work for, and where they work.

Next Steps
- Continue regular social media promotion.
- Using the stakeholder analysis, write to specific organisations asking them to share details with staff e.g. Trusts / CCGs / Colleges, and seek out events and opportunities to promote the tool.
- Review JDR statistics from areas with high completion rates to determine if completion effects registrations and ordering of materials.
- Use as an awareness tool during other ERICA activities.
- Undertake a simple analysis to estimate number of NHS staff involved in the dementia care pathway to inform a target for total completions by 2025 (this is proving more challenging than expected).
- Work with Health Education England to establish ways to share the tool with NHS completing HEE Dementia Training.
- Update to target social care professionals, once case studies on how best to promote JDR in social care are established.
