Improved dementia treatments, both for prevention and quality of life, won’t become a reality without clinical trials using volunteers; yet recruiting and retaining trial participants is one of the greatest obstacles facing research. Engaging in research can empower people living with dementia, offering them the chance to make a positive contribution, and providing hope, but they often need support to take the first steps to involvement. Direct contact with patients can take many forms; here are some that have worked well.
