LEARN To Help Patients Join Dementia ResearchJoin Dementia Research has helped more than 40,000 people connect with research studies over the past four years. As a result, researchers and their studies have massively benefited, with more than 11,000 study enrolments in this time.

However, if we are going to turn the corner and find ways to better prevent, diagnose, treat, care for and maybe even beat dementia, then more help is needed to support patients to become involved.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that all people with dementia should be provided with information on research studies they could participate in, and empower them to make their own decisions about getting involved.

Healthcare professionals play a key role in this, so the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) have launched the LEARN Join Dementia Research awareness tool to help.

How it works

This online tool is aimed at anyone in health and social care who plays a role in caring for and supporting people with dementia, their carers and families. The process is simple:

  1. Watch a short film.
  2. Answer a few questions about what you’ve just seen.
  3. Find out ways you could help.
  4. Tell us a little about yourself.
  5. Receive your certificate.

Our aim is for everyone working in healthcare to know about Join Dementia Research, so that they can easily help people become involved.

Help spread the word

We’re asking for healthcare service providers to share this tool and encourage staff to complete it, so that they can raise awareness of Join Dementia Research amongst their patients. To make it super easy, we event drafted you a newsletter item which you could send to staff.

Information on how many people have completed the LEARN tool, and the organisations they work for, will be published on the toolkit website.
