Through February 2018, Rowlands Pharmacy chain will be delivering a Dementia Research awareness campaign in all its 527 branches across England, Wales and Scotland.

Delivered as part of Rowlands’ Healthy Living Pharmacy work, this campaign is a partnership between the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Alzheimer’s Research UK and Join Dementia Research.

Pharmacy staff will receive awareness information to enable them to talk to customers about research. Pharmacy branches will also be displaying Join Dementia Research and Alzheimer’s Research UK materials, including booklets, application forms and posters. Staff will also be wearing promotional badges.

Promoting research, working with pharmacy

There are over 450,000 people with a diagnosis in England. Most are regular visitors to their local pharmacy, who provide support and advice as well as prescription medications. To deliver on the Department of Health’s 2020 Dementia Challenge we know we will need to take every opportunity to raise awareness. Working with pharmacies allows us to meet one of the targets of ‘Ensuring that all relevant staff can sign-post people to Join Dementia Research’.

Partnering with pharmacies could provide a fantastic way of reaching people with the condition and raise awareness. We are pleased to be working with Rowlands on this great initiative. We will be measuring the impact of this campaign, and sharing the results in the Spring.
